Once More, The Sea

Every piece has a past. This one found its way back to us.

Handcrafted from a beautiful piece of sea pottery discovered on the shores of Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, this one-of-a-kind pendant carries a little piece of Scotland’s ceramic history.

The deep blue pattern, softened and weathered by years in the sea, hints at the life this fragment may once have had. Kirkcaldy was a thriving centre of Scottish pottery for generations, home to potteries producing everything from everyday household wares to highly decorated ceramics. Its Links, Fife, Sinclairtown and other potteries produced pieces that travelled far beyond Fife.

While we can’t know the exact journey of this particular fragment, its transfer-printed style and blue decoration are reminiscent of the ceramics produced during Kirkcaldy’s historic pottery era in the late 19th century. Perhaps it once belonged to a household in Fife. Perhaps it travelled further afield. At some point, it was broken, lost, and eventually carried by the sea until its edges were softened and its story was ready to begin again.

Now, rather than remaining a fragment beneath the waves, it has been given a second life as something to wear.

Set on a 925 recycled sterling silver chain with a matching 925 recycled sterling silver bail, this is a completely unique piece. The sea shaped the pottery; you give its story somewhere new to go.
