Hope Is the Thing with Feathers 🕊️

Inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson

“Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul.

A little reminder that even after the fiercest storms, there is still beauty to be found, and hope always finds a way to sing.

At the heart of this one-of-a-kind ring sits a tiny fragment of sea pottery discovered on the shores of Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. Once part of something much larger, I carefully hand-carved the pottery myself, shaping this delicate little fragment to fit its new home while preserving its beautiful green botanical pattern.

Framed by two birds in flight, the finished piece feels like a tiny story of resilience, transformation and new beginnings. The pottery has been finished with a clear, glossy resin to enhance its delicate details while preserving the character of this little piece of Scotland’s coastline.

The ring setting is crafted from silver-plated brass and was created by another small business, whose work brings this design to life. By bringing together their craftsmanship and my own hand-carved coastal find, this piece celebrates the beauty of small businesses, thoughtful making and the stories held within the things we discover.

Every piece of sea pottery has a past. This one has found a new beginning.
